Shay Simon is a working anchor with range. Her compassionate storytelling connects the community to top stories on all platforms.
She is currently the breaking news anchor for WREG, the #1 station in Memphis. After less than six months as the station's first evening breaking news anchor, she earned a promotion to anchor the station’s Live at 9 newscast.
In her first year at WREG, Shay helped the team earn a TAB award after a shooting spree caused the city’s first emergency shutdown. Since then, she’s covered multiple high-profile murder trials, including that of rapper Young Dolph’s killer and three former Memphis Police Department officers convicted of federal felonies for their role in Tyre Nichols' death. Shay helped lead hours of coverage in the studio and from the courthouse.
She joined the team in 2022, after three years as an anchor and reporter in Columbia, South Carolina. During her time there, Shay covered numerous stories that received national attention, including the murder trial of Nathaniel Rowland and reported live during three hurricanes.
In 2021, between covering the pandemic and continuous protests across South Carolina’s capitol city, she also published her first book. She founded "Jumping into Journalism" to help college students navigate the ever-changing world of news.
She was born and raised in Orlando and received her broadcast journalism degree from Florida A&M University.
While at FAMU, she interned at CBS in New York City. Prior to heading off to the Big Apple, Shay won an AP Award for her work as the anchor for FAMU’s News 20, the university’s live, student-produced newscast.
